How I Won $142

People often ask how I find out about contests and it honestly varies quite a bit.

Recently, I've been combing through #giveaway on Instagram and have been able to find some good contests. That is how I found a video of a man (@robvelez) with a large stack of cash who said that whoever could guess the amount could have it with up to 3 people splitting it. 

This was a bit different than other contests because there was no set end time. I made two guesses, screenshotted the post, and went on with my day. 

I later saw in his story that no one had guessed it and he gave a hint. It was all singles. If I had not checked his story, I would not have known. 

Still no one could guess. 

The next morning I saw he had posted in the past 45 minutes or so that it was between $400 and $500 and someone was only $1 away. 

So naturally, I went all in. 

I made a list on my iPad of the guesses between $400 and $500 and started making guesses that were $1 away from the others. There was someone else making guesses at the same time but he was going in numeric order starting with $400 so I jumped ahead and started in the $420s. 

For each guess, I had to tag 3 people so I just started tagging people who were following me. A few of them also started making guesses but they hadn't seen the hints on his story so they were guessing $700 or $800. 

I kept going until all numbers that were one away from other guesses were covered. Then I sat my phone down and tried to not think about the contest. 

About five hours later, I got a notification on my phone that I was tagged in someone's story. It was the contest and I had guessed correctly. There were three people after me who also guessed the amount so he split it three ways and gave the last person $50 for also getting it right. 

A couple days later I had an extra $142 sitting in my cash app. Overall definitely a fun contest and I love ones that aren't quite up to chance.
